The Cyberspace shooter segment was a massive WTF for me not having playing this series before. In short, there were no clear audio cues for approaching enemies. I was playing with headphones and I still found myself randomly getting attacked from behind even after clearing rooms. Which brings me to my next point which I guess is almost the same but enemies' lack of audio cues, or low mix or whatever it is, feels frustrating while exploring.Enemy hit reactions overall are hard to make out in terms of audio, not sure if it's the actual mix or the enemy sounds. Similarly, the handgun sounds muffled and weak. The pipe impacts for example feel weirdly 'soft' and there it's often hard to tell if you landed a clean hit in all the gloom. I think combat really suffers from the weak weapon and impact sound design.I generally like the color and light scheme because it does a great job conveying that 90's cyberpunk aesthetic (even if it's not 100% faithful to SS1994's real appearance-in my opinion, SS2021 should be equal parts faithful port and implementation of the spirit of the game), but yeah a few of the lights could be taken down from an 11 to like a 9.Īs a newcomer to the series, I enjoyed the demo overall and will probably get it Day 1 but I definitely had some issues with it: I think Nightdive is trying to stay true to the 90's philosophy of just letting the player struggle and figure it out, but some clearer indicators about what's going on would be helpful.ĭark corridors with neon-style lighting can be a bit hard on the eyes but I rather enjoy the art style tbh.Īll of the crank-operated doors basically flashbanged me when I opened them, and the Bioshock pipe puzzles were similarly blinding. I was like "Oh dope it's descent", but shit's confusing to look at and it's not clear what does what. A few bugs and issues here and there but it's really shaping up to be something special.Īgreed wholeheartedly on needing some kind of explanation on how Cyberspace works. Very cool little touch.Ī few problems aside, this game is looking great so far, I can't wait for the full release. I ran by a window earlier on and noted how the rings looked, came by that same window maybe 30 mins later and noticed the ship was on the other side of the planet. One really neat thing I noticed is that they move the skybox so it gives you the feeling of orbiting Saturn. It's completely blinding and I really really hope they fix this before final release. Is anybody else experiencing these crazy 'lens flair' attacks? Happens every time I'm close to the exterior and when the lens flair starts to kick in. Like I'll hit them 3 times and they won't know I'm even there. I have been able to sneak up on and kill multiple zombies without them even noticing me. Dark corridors with neon-style lighting can be a bit hard on the eyes but I rather enjoy the art style tbh. I have heard other people say the game is 'too bright' and I can understand that. I'm also encountering numerous light flash bugs where my screen will just go bright white or something if I look the wrong way. The color puzzle I had completed and it wouldn't accept it until i left the puzzle and went back to it. I experienced a few bugs, namely with the puzzles. I also ran into a bug where I destroyed the core before I read the guys email about doing so, so I was stuck with a quest I couldn't finish. An indication (maybe a color change on the console) would be helpful here. I didn't even realize I destroyed the core when I did, and after I exited, I was able to go back into the Cyberspace level, making me think I had missed something. I don't think its clear enough what to do or where to go in Cyberspace, a tutorial would be helpful. I'm absolutely loving it so far with a few notes:
